Research Assistant (1 year) in "Continuous thermal monitoring with wearable mid-infrared sensors"

We  offer a research assistant position lasting 12 months for a project titled “Graphene-based, wearable mid-infrared sensors”, SSD: FIS/01, project PRIN 2022 titled “Continuous thermal monitoring with wearable mid-infrared sensors” (THERmIR) cod. P2022AHXE5, CUP H53D23000800006. This project proposes a novel approach to continuous body temperature monitoring, a crucial aspect of human health assessment. The project aims to develop wearable, stitchable optical temperature sensors that can monitor skin temperature by harvesting the mid-infrared (mIR) radiation emitted by the human body. These sensors use large-area graphene as the active material, allowing for scalably producing skin-like, flexible, non-invasive thermometers.

Research Assistant (20 months) in "Biodegradable Thin Film Electronic Circuits"

Sustainable electronics considers the environmental, social, and economic impact of electronic devices throughout their life cycle, aiming to reduce waste and resource consumption. Biodegradable thin-film transistors (TFTs) are a promising alternative, simplifying manufacturing, reducing e-waste, and enabling efficient recycling. The use of amorphous oxide semiconductor (a-IGZO) in TFTs, proposed by various research groups, offers sustainable radiofrequency circuits with significantly lower energy, water, and CO2 footprint compared to silicon CMOS technology. These TFTs operate reliably at high frequencies, potentially enabling large-scale integrated circuits. The project funded by the MIUR PRIN program aims to develop fully biodegradable TFTs and basic circuits for IoT and biomedical devices using thin film technology and biomaterials.

PhD Student (3 years) in "Topological Materials for Novel (Opto)electronic Switches"

The miniaturization of silicon CMOS transistors has led to electronic switches with increased speed and reduced power consumption, making electronics ubiquitous. However, at the nanoscale level, thermal dissipation compromises performance, necessitating new switching mechanisms based on quantum phenomena. Researchers are exploring “topological” materials to access transport phenomena without energy dissipation. The focus of this project is on analyzing the properties of atomically thin compounds, such as 2D materials, with strong spin-orbit coupling, for integration into novel electronic devices. Tasks include synthesis, characterization, nanofabrication, and measurement of electronic transport and optoelectronic properties.
